On February 14, 2024, the Biden Administration announced the initiation of Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Palestinians and provided relief for Palestinian students in the United States. This means that, for the next 18 months, DED will stop the deportation of 6,000 Palestinians currently residing in the U.S. who were here before February 14, 2024.
Palestinians who were in the United States before February 14, 2024, can apply for an 18-month work authorization, with the possibility of an extension. The president may also consider easing regulatory requirements for Palestinian students with F-1 visas.
However, there are some exceptions. Individuals who returned to Palestine after February 14, haven't consistently lived in the U.S. since that date, are unacceptable under the Immigration and Nationality Act, have been convicted of a felony or more than two misdemeanors, are subject to extradition, or are deemed a danger to public safety are not protected under Deferred Enforced Departure and will be removed from the United States.
