H-1B Cap Season is almost here, and unfortunately, 80% or more of registrants could be rejected.
Because there is extremely high demand for the H1B visa, there is a cap (limit) on the number of visas that can be issued each year, unless they are subject to an exemption, and the number of annual registrations made during the registration window almost always exceeds the annual cap and the number of available visas.
Once the registration period closes, USCIS carries out the H1B visa lottery to identify which registrants will be selected to apply. The lottery selection process is done at random and there is no assessment made as to the merits of the case at this stage.
Important Dates have not yet been posted for the 2024 CAP Season, but the following dates are what we expect for this year, based on 2022 dates. (Subject to change upon official announcement.)
Feb 22, 2023: Petitioners and Registrants can begin creating H-1B registrant accounts
March 1, 2023: H-1B registration period opens
March 18, 2023: H-1B registration period closes
March 31, 2023: Date by which USCIS intends to notify selected registrants
