As criminal defense and immigration lawyers, the pursuit of equal justice for all has always been at the heart of what we do. All too often, we see the results of aggressive, over-policing, excessive force and racial profiling directed towards minorities. Everyone is entitled to equality in justice and we fight continuously to ensure that our clients receive this basic right.
Like countless others across the nation, we mourn the recent death of George Floyd, an unarmed, handcuffed African American man who was killed by Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer. His death has sparked protests across the nation and world demanding justice and changes that will prevent such injustices from happening in the future. While Floyd’s death is heartbreaking, it is only the latest in a long line of senseless killings of black individuals by law enforcement including Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Breonna Taylor and many others.
At The Scott Law Firm, we feel compelled to advocate as a voice against this continued racial injustice by law enforcement and we are committed to helping those organizations that share these beliefs on justice across our platforms. We are making a financial contribution to the Equal Justice Initiative, founded by social justice activist and lawyer, Bryan Stevenson, and dedicated to ending mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality.
